The Silk Roads: A New History of the World
Silk Roads is a brilliant read that analyzes history through the lens of ever changing relations between the east and the west.
Peter Frankopan manages to include everything from the birth of Islam to the rule of Ghenghis Khan to America’s unscrupulous dealings in the Middle East in one book, and more than that, he actually makes it an enjoyable read.
The book breezes from topic to topic relentlessly, and always seems to have enough intrigue to pull the reader along for the ride.
When I finished The Silk Roads I immediately opened up the next installment: The Future Silk Roads. Frankopan’s writing had that affect - I wanted more.
Highly recommended for anyone with even the slightest interest in Asian or European history.
